Building Capacity
In collaboration with Dr. Jeremy Gilbert, the TDCC Endocrinology Lead, and our New Hires Program Partners, Gail MacNeill and Leigh Caplan (Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre), we continue to offer capacity-building programs for clinicians who are new to providing diabetes care, as well as for those who have been supporting people with diabetes for many years.
Endocrinology Consult Sessions:
- An opportunity for clinicians to bring individual cases and questions for consult with an endocrinologist
- As a result of attending these sessions, evaluations showed:
- An additional 5 individual consult requests with Dr. Gilbert were facilitated through TDCC

New Hires Program:
- Annual program designed to support new diabetes educators to increase their competence and confidence to provide diabetes self-management education and care
- Developed and run in partnership with Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and Mount Sinai Hospital
- 16 participants completed the 2024 program, including RNs, RDs, a RSW and a family physician
- The continued virtual format has enabled participants from outside Toronto Region to participate
