Endocrinology Support in the Toronto Region

Endocrinology Referral Information (Toronto Region)

Diabetes Canada recommends that adults with Type 1 Diabetes, Gestational Diabetes, or Type 2 Diabetes (if pregnant, planning pregnancy or medically complex) have the support of a diabetes specialist (e.g. endocrinologist).

How to refer to endocrinology (Toronto Region)

Children and youth

For those under 18 years of age can be made by a physician or nurse practitioner to The Hospital for Sick Children (Sick Kids).

Adults

For those 18 years of age or older a referral can be made to an endocrinologist working in a team-based endocrinology/diabetes centre (see table below for more information on how to refer) or to a community-based endocrinologist (see the College of Physicians and Surgeons website for more information).

Team-based endocrinology/diabetes clinics (Toronto Region)

For pregnancy/preconception support it is important to ensure that the hospital where the endocrinology referral is made aligns with the location of prenatal care & delivery support.
